🖥️ The Foundation (Hardware)
Dust off that old desktop. You need:
- ✅ CPU: Dual-core or better
- ✅ RAM: 4GB+ (8GB preferred)
- ✅ Storage: A dedicated 1TB+ HDD/SSD for photos
- ✅ OS: Install Ubuntu Linux (it’s faster and more stable for servers)

🛠️ The Brain (Nextcloud)
This is the software that mimics Google Photos. Open your Terminal and run:
sudo snap install nextcloud
Once installed, visit http://localhost on that PC to create your Admin account.

🌐 The Bridge (Remote Access)
To access photos from the beach, you need to open a “door” in your router:
- Find your PC’s local IP (e.g., 192.168.1.50).
- Go to Router Settings > Port Forwarding.
- Forward Port 80 and Port 443 to your PC’s IP.
- Get a free domain from No-IP so you don’t have to remember numbers.

📱 The Sync (Mobile App)
Download the Nextcloud App on your phone.
Enter your new domain address, log in, and enable “Auto-upload Photos”. Now, every photo you take at home or away saves directly to your spare desktop!
⚠️ Pro Tip: Always keep a backup of your spare desktop’s hard drive on an external disk!
