Is your VMware virtual machine not fitting your Mac screen correctly? Installing VMware Tools can usually fix the resolution and display-scaling problem.
How to Fix the Resolution Issue
Follow these steps carefully:
- Open VMware Fusion. Start VMware Fusion on your Mac and open the virtual machine with the display problem.
- Open the Virtual Machine menu. In the macOS menu bar, click Virtual Machine.
- Start the VMware Tools installation. Select Install VMware Tools. If VMware asks whether you want to download or install the tools, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the installer inside the virtual machine. In the virtual machine, open This PC and look for the DVD-ROM drive labeled VMware Tools.
- Install VMware Tools. Double-click the VMware Tools DVD-ROM drive, then follow the installation steps. Choose the default options unless you have a specific reason to change them.
- Restart the virtual machine. Restart the guest operating system after the installation finishes. This allows the new display drivers and integration features to load.
After Restarting
The virtual machine should now adjust its resolution to match your connected display or your Mac laptop’s default screen. If the resolution still looks incorrect, shut down and start the virtual machine again, then check the display settings inside the guest operating system.
